“It has been said, most people die at age 25 and don’t get buried until they are 65. Make an effort to live your life to the fullest.” - Les Brown
Remembering Graduation Day makes me smile... It was full of excitement! The air was easy to breathe and the genie fulfilled my every wish. I laughed, dance and celebrated with family and friends and opened all the gifts...amazed at how thoughtful people were with their gift selection (especially the ones in the envelope). Feeling grateful and motivated was the order of the day, in fact that feeling lasted a few days...weeks even. Then reality set in ...expectations were different; and I felt it. Now what? Move out of my parents home, buy a car and live the singles life (urban style)! I wanted it to happen, quick...Realizing the obvious, I knew the entry-level job that I was in wasn't going to meet the bill. The work-study job was over and the designer things I purchased with my gift cards began to feel like a dumb thing to do. I immediately did the math...basic expenses plus recreation left me in deficit mode... additional income is what I wanted...needed - Now! The fact that I graduated really meant my support system had changed drastically. I had decisions to make and soon...After-all, I dreamed about this time for many years and I wasn't about to give up my "urban lifestyle" dream...So the search was on! I realized now that my journey with all of the twist and turns, ups & downs lead me to the same place I envisioned so many years ago. While I'm grateful for the experience I can't deny that I spent too much time in my comfort zone. Today, celebrating being a business owner with such delight makes me wonder what the hell was I thinking...living 25 years dead waiting to be buried.
